James Joseph "Jim" Kueter

James J. "Jim" Kueter, 80, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Monday morning September 16, 2024, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iowa City, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family.

James Joseph Kueter was born April 2, 1944, in Bellevue, Iowa, the oldest of 17 children born to Harold and Maxine (Michels) Kueter. Jim was a 1962 graduate of Bellevue High School. Jim served his country in the United States Army in 1964 and was deployed to Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1967. Jim worked as a welder at JRB Welding, DeWitt a branch of John Deere for many years until retirement. Jim married Lisa Shultz October 15, 1988, at the United Methodist Church, DeWitt. Jim and Lisa shared over 35 years of happy times together. 

He loved his family, country and sports of all kinds. Jim was an avid Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears fan. He coached youth league and umpired baseball and softball for many years. Jim enjoyed being of Santa’s helpers in DeWitt. Even throughout his years of health struggles he still pressed on. Even though he is no longer physically with us, he will never be forgotten. 

Those honoring Jim’s memory are his loving wife, Lisa; children, Timothy (Stephanie) Kueter of DeWitt, Brian (Janine) Kueter of Bellevue, Jeff (Jessica) Kueter of DeWitt, Paula (Dustin) Klein of Wyoming, Iowa, and Andrea (John) Carney of Dewitt; grandchildren, Trista (Brandon) Maher, Carissa Kueter, Josh (Kayla) Kueter, Brianna (Chris Lubben) Kueter, Collin (Kathryn) Kueter, Trevor (Dakota) Kueter, Sadie (Westhenry) Loerger, Alecia Kueter, Drew Kueter, Jaide Kueter, Cal Kueter, Blaire Kueter, Anna (Slayder) Hansen, Austin (Samantha) Weinschenk, Athen Klein and Tarynne Carney; 15 great-grandchildren with one on the way; siblings, Harold “Junior” (Mitzie) Kueter of DeWitt, Ruth Ann (Duane) Tietjen and Rita Reuss of Bellevue, Nita (Mike) Kaiser of Davenport, Lorin Kueter of Guettenberg, Iowa, Donna (Len) Timmerman of Dickeyville, Wisconsin, Doug (Roxy) Kueter of Charlotte, Joyce (Dennis) Kloft of Bettendorf, Rhonda (Scott) Kasey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mary Kay (Glen) Hobart and Sharon (Tim) Bayer of Davenport, Alan (Monica) Kueter of Texas, Annette (Duane) Sullivan of Welton, Tina (Ridge) Willard of Nevada and Jean Ann (Angie) Kueter-Almos of Davenport; a host of nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas Kueter; a grandson, Dustin Kueter; a sister and brothers-in-law, Linda (Bob) Miller and Jim Reuss and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Laura Shultz.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the United Methodist Church, DeWitt from 9:00 until 11:45 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2024. A service will be held at 12 noon Saturday in the church with the Rev. Dianne Prichard officiating. Military rites and burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.  Casket bearers will be Jeff Kueter, Dylan Timmerman, Collin Kueter, Trevor Kueter, Austin Weinschenk, Slayder Hansen, Dustin Klein, John Carney and Athen Klein.  A memorial fund has been established in Jim's memory.
